Dear Constituents,
Today begins the debate on motion 312 from Conservative M.P. Stephen Woodworth (Kitchener - Centre), to amend the declaration in Subsection 223(1) of the Criminal Code, to create a committee to review the definition of when life starts.
If adopted, this motion would essentially reopen the abortion debate – something Mr. Harper had promised a Conservative Government would not do – and possibly lead to the re-criminalization of abortion.
Canadian women have struggled long and hard in the fight for equality, and this Conservative motion seeks to take women’s rights back decades. While Canadians have not seen the backward public debates on women’s rights that have occurred in the US Republican primaries, this latest Conservative endeavour demonstrates without a doubt that this government is bringing the "war on women’s rights" to Canada.

I will vote against this motion.
