Celebrating the first anniversary of Mauril!

By

Mauril is celebrating its first anniversary! Since its introduction, Mauril has been helping people across the country to learn French and English at no cost.

To mark the occasion, meet the Mauril team!

Anne Hébert, Strategist and Project Manager

What languages do you speak?

French, English and Spanish (beginner)

Why did you want to learn another language?

To broaden my horizons and explore more opportunities in professional, social and cultural contexts.

What has been the most enjoyable or exciting part of your learning journey?

The first time I was able to express myself in English without having to go through the trouble of translating it in my head first. Those moments when I was able to rediscover songs by English-speaking artists, only this time with the right lyrics!

What is your birthday wish for the app and the project?

That Mauril helps learners feel confident and overcome their language insecurities.

Is there anything you would like to say to Mauril users?

Learning a language is a marathon, not a sprint. Be patient, don't be afraid to take risks and practise every day with people who speak the language you want to learn.

Julie Bergeron, Content Writer - French as a Second Language

What languages do you speak?

French is my native language. I learned English at school, and I am currently learning Persian.

Why did you want to learn another language?

Being in a relationship with an Iranian, I want to learn Persian in order to more easily communicate with my in-laws and ensure that, in the future, our children will be proficient in this beautiful language!

What is your favourite Mauril unit?

My favourite content is from the children's TV show Marika! Original and intelligent, the mystery appeals to the whole family. I had a lot of fun creating units based on this fantastic series!

What has been the most enjoyable or exciting part of your learning journey?

Travelling.

What has been the most difficult part of this journey?

Persevering.

What is your wish for the application and the project?

A long life!

Rosa Nginios, Content Writer - French as a Second Language

What languages do you speak?

French, English, Spanish, Greek and some Italian

What is your favourite Mauril unit?

I really enjoy working on units based on fiction, whether it's full episodes at more advanced levels or short scenes for beginners that show everyday situations. There are shows that I loved watching before working on the project, and I feel lucky to be able to work with them.

Is there anything you'd like to say to Mauril users?

That we are working hard on new content, that we are listening to them and taking their needs into consideration, and that their success is at the heart of everything we do.

Mathieu Lordon, Developer

What languages do you speak?

French, English and a little Spanish

Why did you want to learn another language?

To be able to communicate with more people and other cultures; to be able to communicate when travelling; and to have more choices when looking for a job.

What has been the most enjoyable or exciting part of your learning journey?

Understanding more and more about the people speaking the language; becoming more and more comfortable talking; and starting to laugh in the language.

Dessy Aleksandrova, Machine Learning Developer

What languages do you speak?

Bulgarian, English and French

Why did you want to learn another language?

To be able to enjoy and experience more culture (literature, cinema) in its original form.

What has been the most enjoyable or exciting part of your learning journey?

Discovering comics in English, but especially in French (the Paul graphic novels ♥) at the same time as I was learning the colloquial, everyday language spoken here in Canada.

What is your wish for the app and the project?

That more people learn new things (linguistic and cultural) thanks to Mauril. That they discover interesting CBC/Radio-Canada content that they would not otherwise have seen.

That the app keeps growing to offer more content and more tools, and that Mauril becomes a "must" for language learning and sparks interest among the general public!

Mauril is a "3-in-1", perfect for acquiring new knowledge, learning a language and discovering Canadian culture! Your curiosity and determination will be rewarded with an increased ability to share in your target language, and you’ll see improvements every day!
